The inspiration behind 'Green Life' stems from the scarcity of green resources in densely populated urban areas. Chen's design introduces a green wall and vertical farm into the residence, allowing the inhabitants to enjoy planting and cultivating organic hydroponic vegetables as part of their daily life. This not only brings nature into the home but also promotes a healthy lifestyle and the concept of organic and non-toxic living.
What sets 'Green Life' apart from other designs is its unique integration of nature into the living space. Upon entering the house, residents are immediately greeted by different layers of greenery, creating the illusion of walking into nature. The living room, designed like a greenhouse with a glass partition, overlooks the green wall and vertical farm, creating a beautiful backdrop. The design also extends the display bookshelf to the balcony, transforming it into a vertical farm.
To fully integrate the green view into life, Chen replaced the partition wall with a glass partition to extend the space view. The large green wall serves as the backdrop for the living room and dining room. Special sponges replace soil to avoid pest problems, making it easy for busy dwellers to maintain the plants. The use of water resources is efficiently managed through a computer system that controls irrigation water, creating a pleasant natural sound of flowing water from the pond under the green wall.
The design specifications of 'Green Life' aim to combine the vitality of nature with the comfort and style of urban living. The overall hue is reduced to support the freshness of the green plants, with the base of calm earth colors and gradation technique of dark and light layers of handmade paint creating a marble-like natural pattern on the wall. The light design further adds to the exquisiteness of the space. The display rack is embedded with extended light strips, adding color layers and modern aesthetics to the space.
Creating 'Green Life' was not without its challenges. Ensuring the healthy growth of plants and vegetables indoors without affecting the comfort of the living space required overcoming issues of limited sun exposure, irrigation, and pest prevention. Through collaboration with gardening experts, Chen was able to simulate the outdoor environmental conditions indoors, control water consumption through technology, and maximize the use of water resources.
In conclusion, 'Green Life' is a testament to Ying Hsin Chen's innovative approach to residential design. By seamlessly integrating nature into urban living, Chen has created a space that not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also addresses the scarcity of green resources in urban areas. This unique design, which has earned Chen the prestigious Silver A' Design Award, is a shining example of how design can transform our living spaces and lifestyles.
